To truly understand us, I think it’s important to share a bit about my personal journey. My path began in the earliest days of the Internet, back when dial-up modems were the gateway to a brand-new digital frontier. I’ve had the privilege of being at the forefront of web development and search engine optimization before most people even knew what a domain name was.
In 1994, I led the newly formed Internet Division of a multi-million-dollar sales training and consulting company in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Over five years, I developed and oversaw an extensive intranet course management system and multiple public-facing websites. Here I participated in a beta test program with a large communications carrier testing live video conferencing over ISDN. I was also one of the original members of the WebTV developers program where I participated in creating content optimized for the WebTV standard and, because I just couldn't get enough, an early DMOZ Editor for several categories within Web Hosting and Development. During this period, I honed my expertise in defining and driving product branding, marketing strategies, development processes, and search engine optimization (SEO), as well as setting overall strategy and requirements. My experience included managing cross-functional teams and building an online presence targeting consumers and small business markets.
In 1999, I took a deep breath and decided to venture out on my own. I founded a website development business in Jupiter, Florida, called It's Your Prerogative. With the rising demand for websites, the business quickly gained momentum. During this time, I discovered an e-commerce platform that Yahoo! had acquired from ViaWeb and rebranded as Yahoo! Stores. Recognizing its potential, I enrolled as a participating designer, anticipating the growth of online commerce as the Internet evolved. It was a good decision. Only a limited number of companies were selected, and we were one of them.
To capitalize on this niche market, we changed our domain to CustomYstores.com. Years later, after completing hundreds of projects—including e-commerce sites for major brands like Frigidaire and Coca Cola, Yahoo! requested that we discontinue using "Ystores" in our domain name. Respecting their request and aiming to broaden our services, I launched WebStoreSEO.com in 2007, expanding beyond Yahoo! Stores (now owned by Turbify) where we continue to thrive.
